by Ceren Ercan (TR)
In this play, Istanbul-based author Ceren Ercan, who is already well-known in the German theater scene, follows three young people in the streets of Berlin and Istanbul. They, all part of the so-called new-wave migration wave, talk about their everyday experiences, which are shaped by the current tensions between the two countries. All three characters describe themselves as the European face of Turkey. The current political climate in Turkey deprives them of any belief in a future in their home country. And what does Berlin offer them?
Within the framework of 4Projekte Istanbul, this is the last work that Frank Heuel is realizing in the Turkish metropolis – together with Platfrom Tiyatro. Platform was founded in 2015 by actor and author Marc Levitas and dramaturge and author Ceren Ercan to bring Turkish theater more into an international context and exchange.
The play „Berlin Zamanı“ is part of the „Turkey Triology“ which started at the 21st Istanbul Theatre Festival with the first part „I love you Turkey“.
Berlin Zamanı is a production of fringe ensemble/Turkey GbR. Funded by: Kunststiftung NRW, Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Goethe Institute Istanbul.
