Mirza Metin

Mirza Metin studied dance and music at the ITÜ State University of the Arts and theater criticism and dramaturgy at Istanbul University. From 1994 to 1999 and 2001 to 2003, he received an acting training at Teatre Jiyana Nu Theater in Istanbul and was part of the acting ensemble.

From 2003 to 2008 he worked as an actor, acting teacher and later as a director at the Seyr-i Mesel Theater. In 2008, he founded the Destar Theater with Berfin Zenderlioğlu. In 2010, they opened the Şermola Performans venue.

From 2014 to 2015, Mirza Metin worked as artistic director for the Dil Oyunlari project, which brought together contemporary writers and directors and actors known in Istanbul, who together staged and performed four new plays.

In 2017, Mirza Metin was one of the authors of the event „World/Stage – Platform for International Drama“ in Munich; his play „Hungry Dogs / Aç köpekler“ was invited to the PEN World Voices: International Play Festival in New York.

Mirza Metin works for Şermola Performans as a writer, director and actor and has received awards from several institutions for his work. He collaborated with Frank Heuel, artistic director of the Bonn fringe ensemble, in Istanbul and in Bonn from 2016 to 2020: the former he directed himself, and the subsequent ones were premiered under the direction of Frank Heuel.
