Maja Das Gupta studied prose and drama at the German Literature Institute and German literature, English and Theater Studies at the LMU Munich. She has worked for several radio stations and theaters.
For her play „Zappen“ she received a nomination for the Best Newcomer Playwright in Theater Heute. The Zimmertheater Tübingen arranged the premiere. The radio play at Radio Bremen was nominated for best radio play of the ARD. At the Staatstheater Wiesbaden „Der Nachlass“ was premiered. She worked at the Tribüne and Neukölln Opera Berlin and since then commutes between work in the independent scene and city theaters. Last season the TIG 7 in Mannheim opened with the series “Author Portraits „, presenting several of her texts in stage readings and premiering „Abend in Cape Cod”. Her first classroom play, “Tito, mein Vater und Ich”, which deals with the effects of the war in Yugoslavia, premiered in Theater Heilbronn this year.
She has received several scholarships and was invited to numerous author workshops such as the Burgtheater Vienna, the Munich Kammmerspiele playwright weekend and the authors’s meeting at the Bonn Biennale. For „Mrs. Scatterbrain and Ganesh „, she received the Children’s Theater grant from the Frankfurt Children’s and Youth Theater Centre.
Since 2010, the radio station SWR annually broadcasts a Das Gupta play: „Sneak Preview“, “Falschmünzer” and this year, an abbreviated version of the play Nur fliegend/Only Flying, which she wrote in the process of dialogue with Frank Heuel, director of the fringe ensemble. Since January 2012 Das Gupta has been nominated one of the three authors of the Author Competition Leipzig.
