Ceren Ercan

Ceren Ercan studied dramaturgy and theater criticism at Istanbul University and film studies at Marmara University. From 2003, she worked as a dramaturge at the Bakirkoy Municipal Theater in Istanbul and as a mentor for young writers in the „New Text New Theatre“ program of the Galata Perform Theater. As a co-founder of the Oyun Deposu Theater Company, she wrote the play „Cirkin Insan Yavrusu – The Ugly Little Man“ in 2007, which was also published in German translation in Theater Heute magazine. She also wrote the play „Istenmeyen – Persona Non Grata“ and directed its premiere during the Istanbul Theater Festival in 2014. Her production was subsequently invited to the Open World Festival in Ludwigshafen, as well as to the Festival Chantiers d’Europe at the Théâtre de la Ville Paris.

Today, she works as a freelance writer and dramaturgical consultant and teaches film studies and dramaturgy at Bahcesehir and Bilgi Universities. Most recently, she wrote a Turkey trilogy: in „Tehran Dream“, „I love you Turkey“ and „Time for Berlin“ (created for the fringe ensemble), she examined Turkey’s turmoil between adaptation to the West and Eastern tradition. „I love you Turkey“ was awarded the prestigious Ekin Yazin Dostlari Prize and the Bakirkoy Municipal Theater production was invited to the 2019 Heidelberg Stückemarkt. The German-language premiere of „I love you Turkey“ was also directed by Selen Kara at the Staatstheater Nürnberg in 2019.

In 2016 she worked for the first time as part of the fringe writers: she was one of the authors of the project „MACBETH over Europe“. In the same year she wrote „Zeit für Berlin / Berlin Zamanı“. Since 2019 she developed the texts for the project „Map to Utopia“. Ceren Ercan is one of the authors of „Wunderland“ (2023).
