Map to Utopia

by Ceren Ercan

The MAP TO UTOPIA project went through a diverse evolution: from hybrid to purely digital and back to hybrid format. The respective stages of the project also had an influence on the texts, or required changes in content. From the beginning, Frank Heuel worked closely with the author Ceren Ercan. She not only wrote the texts for the performers, but also those that appeared in the app developed especially for this project. A total of 40 fictitious biographies were written and for them various texts such as e-mail messages, letters. In the first phase of the project there was also a newspaper, whose texts were also written by Ceren Ercan.

Using the cosmopolitan metropolis of Istanbul as an example, the team developed a fictitious cityscape with four districts and invited the participants to get to know them. Led by five performers, each participant in the interactive performance took on the role of people who live or work here, encountering others and exchanging ideas.
