Mode

by Andreas Vonder/Frank Heuel

“Modus” is the second collaboration project with Dutch author Andreas Vonder, after www.hotel.e, their first successful play. Following the bankruptcy of the “social utopia” of the 1980s, the focus has shifted to the “utopia of the individual”: The search for the ideal self is the subject of this play, which was created as a “work in progress”. The rehearsal process and the writing of the play occurred at the same time.

Andreas Vonder delivered text fragments, which were expanded and implemented by the actors Viola Knapp, Ulrike Rehbein, Andreas Meidinger and Georg Lennarz. “The greater the freedom to realize the ideal self, the emptier it feels,” writes Vonder. The audience is left with an empty, churning feeling, but despite an ugly and latent awareness, feeling enthusiastic.

“Modus”, the play by Andreas Vonder leads four characters in their twenties into temptation: Pass the ball, search, invent yourselves! Frank Heuel makes the material a highly rhythmic dance between cloning and chatting, hesitation and trepidation.
